Dice
I’m going to tell you a little story about me. I must say that it is really hard to tell where it all started. It could started when I was 7 years old and I got my first quitar? Or maybe it all started when I bought my first PC at the age of thirteen and founded a wonderfull world of electronical music? Or perhaps it all started in 1999 when I organised my first DNB partys and brought Drummie to Helsinki with my loyal friend Pinball? Well, Who knows..
What I do know is that year 1999 changed a whole lot of things in my life. That time I had studio with Dharmaone and Bluez, and it was our first ever demo cd we sent to a labels Moving Shadow, Formation and Hospital which was really unknown label back then, I remember that Nenis from Nine2five recordings came to us and told that there is this one new intressing label called hospital and that we should send CD over there.
After week or so phone started to ring and emails started to drop.. First we got email from Moving Shadow and they wanted to sign our tracks immediatly and it happened really fast!! and few days later phone rang and DJ.SS was in there. First I thought, ‘Okay this is Chris Champagne fuckin around with me again because back then he used to do that’ and I said sth. like ” Chris Dont screw me again”.. It took few seconds to realize that isnt a Chris.. =) So right about sametime we signed tunes to Moving Shadow, and formation.. I could say that these are the best labels to start your career! Both professional and reliable labels, much love to both labels! But what happened to Hospital CD? Well it came back after 4weeks, we didnt have a right address!
So things started to roll really fast and because our sound was full of soul and funk, we started a live drum’n'bass band called “breakwater crew”. And we had a coupla really good gigs like a progression sessions.. But like allways, money is a problem.. Promoters basicly couldnt afford us because we had a full band : saxsophone, bass, guitar, flute, keyboard, sampler, MC&Vocalist! I’m sure I’m not the only one to miss this line-up! In 1999 I also started to spin plates back 2 back with Pinball, which is nowdays allmost like a trademark! “buy one, get two”, not a bad deal? :) And know what, Sundance 2000 was my first foreign gig.. Basicly back then in Finland if you wanted to Dj, you had to organise your own parties.. Well don’tknow has it changed a lot since then.. ;)
Sundance 2000 was really important festival to me. I met most of my loyal friends Raul, Drummie, Kurre, Nemos, Tosha, QBA, L’EAZY, Mander. I could continue that list forever! So 2000 went really fast.. Most of the time went on road playing in a different partys.
For a long time we had talk about putting up our own label, but as you know.. starting a new thing and in this case a label isnt exactly the easiest thing. Beginning of 2001 things just started to move on, and we got change to get a distribution deal and there wasnt any hesitatin(our fault)! We got really good openin for a label, we got loads of good reviews and records sold well and it was time for us to take a bigger step and we aproached the mighty Peshay and after coupla hours of hard egatiation we got a remix deal and Mango 02 saw a daylight.. which unfortunately left a last release for mangofunk by now. This only because our label were screwed by distributor.. So alot of good tunes left without release.
So basicly this is a smaller version of my last years, still a lot of things left to say.. And I didnt even wanted to start listin all records I have released, or i didnt even mention about all the parties I have organised, or all ladies I have met.. because that is totally different story! :)
